Case Study

Gatwick Airport Runway Resurfacing

Colas undertook a full runway resurfacing project for Gatwick Airport in Spring of 2022. HDS were tasked with delivering an automated quality assurance system that would reduce costs, improve construction quality, reduce health & safety risk, and integrate seamlessly with two on-site batching plants, four pavers working in echelon and a suite of rollers behind them.

The HDS eLoad system is normally tied into the UK’s network of asphalt batching plants, but it can also integrate into mobile and site based batching plants for unconventional job sites. We were able to digitally transmit all material delivery information in real time to site operatives and build laying records with only the push of one button.

eTec systems were installed on the four pavers working in echelon so that material delivery temperatures could be monitored continuously and integrated with laying records as construction took place. Roller systems provided 100% compaction control coverage and data.
