HDS and Eurovia Win the Collaborative Innovation Award at LCRIG!

Ruairi Charlesworth

HDS and our partners Eurovia UK have been named winners of the collaborative innovation award at the Local Council Road Innovation Group (LCRIG) festival of innovation!

The team entered the competition with our thermal imaging system for measuring the rate of spread of pre-coated chippings in HRA construction, which helps to improve construction quality and site safety whilst reducing costs for testing and extending pavement life.

Paul Kidd, Technical Director at Eurovia UK, said:

”This is really fantastic news and thank you to LCRIG. This is great recognition for the teams involved and our client Hertfordshire County Council. This new technology is industry leading and it has been a real collaborative effort to help improve the way we work using innovation and digital technology to help improve the safety of our employees, quality and long term durability of our products. We now need to share this new technology and innovation with other clients in our sector.”

Chrissy Jaques, Head of Highways Operations and Asset Management at Hertfordshire Highways commented:

“We’ve been thrilled to work with Eurovia and Highway Data Systems on this revolutionary trial in Hertfordshire.  Like all local authorities quality is important to us and our residents, innovative technology that improves quality and longevity is win-win!  We’re really keen to embrace technology that improves working conditions for our operational teams, and this solution offers a means to address the unique challenge of measuring spread rate without being in close proximity to the chipper.  This cutting edge solution providing real time information for the site team to act upon in-the-moment provides us with assurance that the best possible standards are maintained and the availability of detailed geo-located data provides valuable information for our asset records. Looking forward to seeing this develop in the short and long term.”
